Repeat Prescriptions

Repeat prescriptions can be obtained in the following ways:

In Surgery

By handing in the counterfoil part (right-hand side) of the prescription at reception after ticking the relevant boxes of the medication you require. These slips should be dropped into the black box fitted to the wall to the left hand side of the Reception windows.

By Telephone

Order your prescription by telephone. The prescription line will only be available from 11.00 to 13.00 Monday to Friday. Outside these times, prescriptions cannot be ordered by telephone. When you ring the surgery you will be asked to press number 3, for repeat prescriptions. Only medication on regular repeat prescription may be ordered by telephone and requests must be clear and precise.

Online

Either by using the links on our website or via the SystmOnline App you can send us your request electronically and we will process it in the usual time frame

By Post

You can post your prescription request to the surgery address.  If you require your prescription to be posted back please include a stamped address envelope.  Please remember to allow additional time for postage and delivery when using this method.

Electronic Prescription Services

Electronic Prescription Service is a relatively new system where we can send your prescriptions to your nominated pharmacy electronically.  On the whole is can save you time and result in less visits to the surgery.  There are some drugs and devices that cannot be sent via EPS at the moment, however you will be notified of this before you register for this service or before a new repeat medication is initiated.

You can nominate a pharmacy to receive your prescriptions by either speaking to the pharmacy or requesting this in surgery.

Collecting your prescription

Your prescription be collected in a number of different ways:

  1. In Person
  2. Posted
  3. By the pharmacy
  4. Delivered by pharmacy staff

If collecting in person same day prescriptions can be collected from 4.30pm if requested before 2pm. If a prescription is requested after 2pm, this will be available from 4.30pm the following day.

Repeat Dispensing

Repeat Dispensing is available to most patients on repeat prescriptions. Prescriptions can be issued for 6 to 12 months. This can be done by means of electronic (your prescription will be sent directly to the chemist) or ordinary paper prescriptions and is usually done after a medication review.

If collecting in person same day prescriptions can be collected from 4.30pm if requested before 2pm. If a prescription is requested after 2pm, this will be available from 4.30pm the following day.

Practice Repeat Prescribing Ordering Policy

The practice no longer accepts repeat prescription requests from pharmacies on behalf of patients. We are aware that the online pharmacy, ‘Pharmacy 2U’ is currently mailing Wakefield residents advising of the services that they can provide. Please note that our policy also applies to Pharmacy 2U and therefore if you choose to nominate Pharmacy 2U to dispense your medicines, you will still need to order your own prescription from the surgery.

All pharmacies are still able to collect your repeat prescription from the surgery once it has been processed and deliver your medicines to you if they offer these services.

Please be assured that the practice has not provided Pharmacy 2U with your details and that we are not affiliated to them in any way.

Medication reviews are usually required every 12 months.
